    Pregnancy - Birth Preparation

Did you know that your pelvic floor has to lengthen and move out of the way for a baby to come through? Who is at high risk for birthing trauma than others? What can we do about it? What should you be doing in your early postpartum to aid recovery? These are just some of the topics we cover in Birth Prep! We recommend you pre-book for the following weeks: Initial appointment: Anytime after your 20 week scan +Review appointments at 28 weeks + 34 weeks (only if it's your first vaginal birth) + 37 weeks. These are the minimum most mums need, however sometimes more is required.

    Pregnancy - Aches and Pains

Growing a human is tough! For any aches and pains whether it's headaches, sore lower back, hip pain, pelvic girdle pain or anywhere in the body, we are here to help. Suitable for any stage of pregnancy. Just book a 45 min "Pregnancy Aches and Pains Initial", and if you feel like you'd like some ongoing help, you're welcome to pre-book any review appointments as well.

    Postnatal Assessments

If you've had a baby in the last few years and want either a general check over post vaginal birth or C-section birth, or if you are having concerns that you'd like assessed, a Postnatal Assessment is for you. Includes assessment & management for abdominal muscle separation and a pelvic floor assessment (where indicated). Helps guide return to exercise safely. We recommend pre-booking these appointments:Initial appointment: Book for 6-8 weeks after your estimated due dateReview appointment: 16 weeks is another really useful timepoint to check in. Because we book out so far in advance, we do recommend pre-booking this one too! If any other follow up appointments are needed post birth, we will be able to book these with you depending on your goals and progress at your early sessions.

Pelvic Floor / Bladder / Bowel

Pelvic floor assessments and training for those wanting to prevent future issues. We also provide assessment and management for any urinary issues including leaking and urgency (overactive bladder), or for bowel issues (leaking, constipation etc). Despite what you may think, we offer much, much more than pelvic floor exercises for these conditions!Women's Health Initial Assessments are suitable for:
  • Bladder leakage, urgency and frequency

  • Bowel issues including constipation, urgency and leakage

  • Prolapse assessments

  • Pelvic and sexual pain

  • Endometriosis, hysterectomy recovery & other gynae conditions

  • Peri and postmenopausal pelvic health changes

Endo / Sexual Pain / Pelvic Pain

For help with any pelvic pain disorders such as endometriosis and adenomyosis, vaginismus, and sexual pain disorders and anything else that falls within this category.

Book a "Women's Health Initial Assessment".

    Prolapse & Pessaries

If you have symptoms of prolapse such as vaginal heaviness, dragging or a bulge protruding vaginally, and/or if you are interested in a vaginal support pessary or are currently using a pessary to manage your prolapse symptoms. We provide education, assessment, and all of your options, including the provision and ongoing support of a pessary if needed. What to book:Women's Health Initial Assessment: Our first appointment is a thorough assessment where we will go through the above. If you're hoping to get a pessary, we use this session to see if you are a suitable candidate for a pessary and talk you through the pros and cons, and any other management you may like to try beforehand. We do not fit pessaries at this first assessment.Pessary Fitting - 1st appointment: If you would like to pre-book a Pessary fitting, please select a "Pessary Initial Assessment" online for at least 2 weeks after your Women's Health Initial Assessment. We have various types of pessaries and they all have various sizes, so this allows us time to pre-order the style/size that we think would be best suited for you. Pessary Fitting - 2nd appointment: It is a requirement that we see you within the first month of your pessary use. Please pre-book a "Pessary Review Assessment" within 4 weeks of your fitting.  Ongoing follow ups and management are also required however this will be discussed with you and booked accordingly.

    C-Section & Abdo Scar Release

Reconnect with your core, release the pain, sensitivity and dysfunction of your abdominal scar(s) and improve the overall look and feel of your scar. Only Jess offers this consult. Anytime from 16 weeks post birth, but years and years later is fine too! Whether you've had a C-section, abdominoplasty, laparoscopies, kidney/gallbladder/appendix surgeries etc, all abdominal scars can be worked on. We recommend starting with 3 sessions, all 3-4 weeks apart - please prebook them all. What to book:C-Section/Abdominal Release Initial Consult: Anytime from 16 weeks post birth/ post op. [75 min session]C-Section/Abdominal Release Reviews: Please also book 2 review appointments, both 3-4 weeks apart after the first one. [60 min session]While we are more than happy for kids to be at any of our appointments, we strongly recommend no kids at these sessions. We set spa-like vibes for these sessions; think eye masks, zen music, relaxation and lots of deep breathing! Babysitters are strongly recommended.

What happens at a Women’s Health Appointment?

A 75 minute appointment sounds like a long time doesn’t it? Well I tell you what, we need it & it will fly by!

We start off by mainly talking, going through a heap of questions about your symptoms so I can paint a really good picture in my mind of what we are going to need to look for and assess. We are big believers in educating you about what happens to our bodies during pregnancy, childbirth and beyond, so depending on your symptoms, we will teach you what has likely led to where you are now and what we will need to look for, and how we can do that.

Most of the time, the gold standard of assessment for any pelvic issue, or postnatal pelvic screening, is to do an internal vaginal assessment. We know the concept of this can be daunting, however we promise we always keep this as brief, light hearted (you will laugh at some point I’m sure!), and educational as possible. And most of the time, my ladies go “oh, is that all?!”. It is 100x more comfortable and tolerable than a pap smear! Do I really need a vaginal examination I hear you ask? Well of course it is your choice, however I liken this to asking a physio to treat your shoulder by looking at your foot. We really can’t get any idea of how your shoulder is functioning, what the support structures are like or how well you can use it by looking at your foot, and the same goes with any of the pelvic floor muscles, fascia and pelvic organs! They’re all internal, so that’s where we get our best information from.

So, once we’ve worked out what is going on, together we will come up with a plan of attack and then that will be our whirlwind of a session complete! Sometimes we don't need to see you for 4-6 weeks after that, other times it’ll be much sooner, it really just depends on what is going on and what your goals are. We also endeavour to make sure any homework or instructions given are written down, so don’t feel like you need to remember every word we’ve discussed during our time together. We’ve got your back!

Do you do general Physio treatments as well?

We absolutely do! Dry needling, sports, general aches and pains, musculoskeletal, you name it. Just select a "General Physio Initial" when booking online.

I’m pregnant, which type of consult should I book?

I need more info! Are you suffering neck/back/pelvis/wrist etc types of pain? Then go ahead and book a ‘Pregnancy Aches and Pains’ Initial. Or do we need to delve deeper?

If you’re hoping to learn about how to prep your pelvic floor for birth, or are concerned about internal pelvic pain, bladder or bowel control issues, sexual pain, or prolapse symptoms (heaviness or a bulge usually felt vaginally), please book a ‘Pregnancy Initial Consult’ as these types of issues often need an internal assessment (low risk pregnancies only).

Still not sure? Ask us directly!
